CANUCK IF YOU BUCK

last year when 10 Deep did their Canadian tour, I think they stopped in Brampton and Toronto. This is a dope little montage of the lot of it. ( obviously has the Air Canada Center bank in there )

...JUST WHEN YOU THOUGHT YOU WERE SAFE

I've been getting into politics alot more than ever lately, really I wasn't into them at all before. Then I started to get interested in the Illuminati "theory" I've been watching a bunch of video's and reading a few articles, and talking with other people I know about the whole situation to try and understand it a bit better. I'm still lost in the whole situation, as these people are obviously trying to hide their identity. Alot of people were stoked on Obama's victory, but you just never know...

this documentary has confused me. Though even if Obama is as crooked as he is made out to be, there are still other side's to what he is trying to do.

DONT JUDGE A BOOK BY ITS COVER...

Especially with this sweetheart, she has the confidence I need. Everyone had their doubts when she walked out and even during the introduction. All of a sudden the second she started singing, people lost their minds. She deserves to be blogged, cause now a'days you need sex appeal to win American Idol type contests. Notice her actions after she gets the "yes" from Simon. Then try looking her in the eyes and not calling her a cutie pie.
I can't get an embedded video but here is the link to YOUTUBE

Mark Gonzales

Born in 1969 Mark Gonzales or "Gonz" is know for being one of the pioneers of modern street skating. Gonz came on the scene at age 15 with a new more modern take on skating. He made the cover of Thrasher Magazine in November 1984, where at the time he was sponsored by Alva. He was soon scooped up by Vision skateboards who were a new company with big ideas. Mark made Embarcadero in SF a popular spot to skate by doing the first major gap there in 1986 and was featured in the September 86 issue of Thrasher. This gap was soon after nicknamed the "Gonz Gap" because of mark. Not to long after this gap was done Mark and Natas Kaupas were the first two skaters to skate handrails in 86 and Mark was the first to ride in switch stance in 87. In 1989 Mark created Blind skateboards, influencing skateboarding even more with Blind's 1991 video "Video Days. In 93 Gonzales made a trip back to his self title gap and was the first ever to kickflip the Gonz Gap. Mark then left Blind and started two new companies, the first being ATM Click and then 60/40 Skateboards which are now out of business. After this Mark skated for Real Skateboards and then launched Krooked Skateboards. Although Gonz is a skater he also took on a career in Art. His art has been shown at many galleries worldwide, including Alleged Gallery in New York. He also had a collaborative exhibit with fellow skater Christian Hosoi at The Journal gallery in New York. Some of Mark's fans/collectors include people like Donald Trump and Sean "P-diddy" Combs. These two careers aren't the only things Gonz has done. He has had lead parts in short films like "How They Get There" in 1997 and published a book called "Broken Poems" in 2006. He was awarded the "Legend Award" by Transworld Skateboarding and in 2007 he published a skate film named "Gnar Gnar" and was released with only 1000 VHS copies made and was shot with an old VHS camcorder. And you think he stopped there, Mark has been featured in Skate, Skate 2 and Skate it, just so you can be as good as him(in a video game of course). Mark is truly one busy skateboarder.

Now for the videos

Lance Mountain

Born in 1964 Lance was one of the more popular skaters in the 80's. He also was one of the five most legendary members of the Bones Brigade. When contests were the main factor in a skaters status, Lance was on top of the competition during the first phases of street skating, but he specialized in vert skating where he regularly placed in the top five. In 81 Mountain was got his first sponsorship with Variflex, but then signed with Powell Peralta a year later. In 1983 Lance won the Upland Turkey Shoot which upped his skate status. He was up against some tough competition including fellow team riders Steve Cabellaro, Mike McGill, and Tony Hawk. Winning this contest made Mountain the perfect candidate for "The Bones Brigade Video Show" which was skateboarding's first full length video in 1984. In the early 90's street skating started to take over and vert fell into second place, the Bones Brigade went through the change and fell behind as well because of its heavy vert dominance. As this was happening Lance left Powell Peralta and started his own skateboard company call "The Firm" in 1991 and signed noteable skaters such as Bob Burnquist, Ray Barbee, and Rodrigo Teixeira. "The Firm" was ended in 2006, and Lance has been riding for Flip ever since. Lance was also one of the creators of fingerboards back in the late 70's and assembled them out of cardboard, pencil erasers, and a disassembled Hot Wheels toy.

NATAS KAUPAS!!!

Natas Kaupas born in 1969, was referred to as one of the first true professional street skaters. He just preferred not to ride ramps and parks, when it didn't even really phase other skateboarders at the time. Kaupas is also the father of the all so popular wall-ride. When thrasher magazine saw that, they were so impressed he made the cover. After that happened he began to get more and more. In 1984 he got his first pro model with SMA(Santa Monica Airlines) skateboards. At this time he started skating with people like: Mark Gonzales, Julien Stranger and Tim Thiebaud, strarting the street skating movement.
At a skate demo in Oceanside California Kaupas stunned the crowd just for attempting a handrail, at this time it was unsuccessful. In 1987 he was in the Santa Cruz video "wheels of fire" and began to be noticed by even more. With that people started questioning him about his name. Natas spelt backwards is satan, really it was just the male version of Natalia in Lithuanian. He thought it was funny and started wearing public enemy shirts to get to them. In 1988 etnies saw him growing and growing and decided to offer him a pro model shoe ( which was a new concept at the time.) Then in 1989 he was in the video streets of fire, where Kaupas had a huge role.
In 1991 Natas was approached by Steve Rocco, who started World Industries skateboards. He suggested that he started his own line of skateboards. He then dropped SMA and started 101 skateboards. In 1992 101 skateboards grew very popular with Kaupas doing his thing and skating. He lost interest in the companies after they had put together a team of pros and ams. Kaupas worked for a bunch of different companies, some pretty short lived. In 1998 he found alot of graphic/ art work with element and quicksilver, also releasing a pro model on element. He is still active and doing his thing as a "semi-retired professional skateboarder" that must be the life.

How awesome is the intro to this part? AMAZING! Same with the skate part! some of these tricks need to be done more these days!

wheels of fire part.

MTL REPRESENT

If you follow the MTL(montreal) graffiti scene, you know these guys, atleast loes, that guy killlllllllllllllllllllz. This is a pretty dope track, about the harsh montreal winters. If you haven't expierienced one you can't say anything. They are terrible hands down.

STEVE OLSON

Don't get it twisted, we are talking about the OG Steve Olson(Alex Olson's dad), not the one who used to ride for shorty's. Don't get me wrong, that guy roolz too especially his part in fulfill the dream. I always wondered what happened to this guy. I forget what video it is off the top of my head but I remember him having a 3-4 trick part. It's really too bad, for the time the video was released we was on some next tip. dropping off roofs into handrails etc... but now for the Steve Olson who helped make skateboarding what it is today.

( amazing song choices )

Steve Olson started skating in 1966, getting a new deck every year at christmas. He kept skating and skating and was claimed king of vertical skating in the late 70's. He rode for Santa Cruz and was part of the Independent truck company's test team when they first came out.
In 1978 in the magazine "wide world of skateboarding" they wrote: "I believe that Steve is the number 1 bowl rider in the world today. He has so many strengths: He's physically sound, well coordinated and has a great sense of spontaneity. He can walk into an unfamiliar bowl and begin to rip it right away."
Aside from skateboarding he had a love for punk rock music and art. These days art is very serious for him and he takes it pretty seriously, and it shows in his work. He has meaning and purpose in his art which really stands out. This man is inspiration for many.

Now for a couple video interviews:

HUF team rider - Tommy Guerrero

Here is a video of Tommy from 1985 to comemorate his new HUF deck dropping at True Love in limited quantities. This video came out around the same time that Gary "Green River Killer" Ridgeway was killing prostitutes. Ridgeway was convicted of killing 48 prostitues between 1982-1986 in major cities in California like San Fran and LA, and many more in Seattle. Though he confessed to killing 71. Gary was finally arrested in 2001 after DNA evidence linked him to the murders. Ridgeway was sentenced to serve 48 life sentences and an additional 480 years for tampering with evidence for each murder.

Tommy was 19 when he filmed this video and was a member of the Bones Brigade skate team that dominated in the 80's. He was well know for his "effortless" skating in his hometown of San Francisco, which was featured in most of the Brigade's videos. After sakting for Powell Peralta and the Bones Brigade Guerrero and Jim Thiebaud started the skate company Real which is still around to this day.

Now to the video of Tommy Gurrero shreddin in 85.

RIP MARTIN TARBACK A.K.A. "DREADLOCKS"

Many of you who have skated the streets of Kitchener-Waterloo have come across Dreadlocks at one point or another whether you realize it or not. I heard alot of different stories about this guy, you never really know whats true and whats not. The article below taken from The Record, must be somewhat correct to be released to the general public, but then again you never really know. He seemed to be pretty nice, and would rarely not return a hello or smile and nod. It sucks he had to go right after that brutal winter, just as it was getting nice.

Taken from The Record:
Few men can make a room full of street-hardened police officers tear up.
But Martin Tarback could, such was the pull of his story -- of an adult life often spent with no place to call home, lost in the black hole of mental illness. He was an imposing, gentle giant, nicknamed "Dreadlocks," who shuffled around Kitchener's streets, where he lived for almost 20 years.
Tarback died Tuesday at Freeport Health Centre after a long struggle with cancer. He was 41.
Many who moved through downtown -- outreach workers, business owners, residents -- knew the man with the long beard and dreadlocks who often dressed in layers of tattered, dark clothing.
But Tarback also left an impact on the group of men and women who have walked the streets as officers of the Waterloo Regional Police.
For the beat cops of the Frederick Street police station, he was just Martin -- the guy they'd give a pair of boots, gloves, long johns, a bit of money or the occasional cigarette.
"There wasn't a foot patrol officer in our division who didn't know him," said Supt. Bryan Larkin, who has known Tarback since he was a rookie constable in his early 20s.
"Our streetscape has changed forever, because he was such a friendly, familiar face."
News of Tarback's death made for a sad day the police station yesterday, he said. Many remembered him from sensitivity training sessions where Tarback would be brought in to tell his story to a room full of 30 or 40 officers.
"On many occasions, he brought the room to tears," Larkin said. "He moved many officers who had worked with him for years."
Despite his rough appearance, Tarback earned a soft spot in the hearts of people who met him.
Strangers would buy him coffee. Little old ladies gave him chocolates. Downtown store owners bought him clothes and once put him up in a Victoria Street motel.
"A lot of people tried to help him," said Mark Garner, executive director of the Kitchener Downtown Business Association. "But he wanted to do things on his own terms, and he did it his own way."
By all accounts, Tarback had a normal childhood. In his teen years, he was a good-looking young man, with a steady hand on a pool cue and piercing eyes. He went to Eastwood Collegiate Institute and had a loving family.
But mental illness was slowly clouding his reality. By his 20s, he was living on the streets, sleeping in ATM lobbies, and turning away from the medication and doctors who could have offered him a more normal life.
Tarback had his good periods, when he'd accept help for his alcoholism and mental illness from the city's social agencies. And he had his bad periods, when he was unreachable.
Many people quietly looked out for him. He had an account at the King Street TD Bank branch, and could access a daily allotment there.
Many who came to really know him, saw him as more than just a man on the street, holding out his hand.
For many in downtown, he was a reminder that everyone has a story to tell, and everyone has hidden scars, Larkin said.
And for other people living on the street, Tarback's legacy just might be a kinder, more understanding police force.
"If we see somebody with their arm in a sling, we go 'oh, they must be hurt" Larkin said. "But it's much harder to see the signs of someone suffering from mental illness."
A memorial service is planned for Friday, March 27 at 3 p.m. at St. John's Community Kitchen, 97 Victoria St. N.

GUARDIAN ANGELS...UHHHH

You may have seen this on bombing science, but this got me pretty fired up. Volunteer's who are on call 24/7, go out of their way to help police do their jobs. If you ask me they seem like a bunch of police foundation drop outs. A DJ who likes graffiti also helped arrest a couple of graffiti writers in chi-city. Check his flickr and send him hate mail or, fan mail if that's your thing.
Check how brutal they're treated,I would Love to see these guys out-numbered at one time.

MORE LOL'S

The previous video I saw from these guys "jizz in my pants" was semi- cheezy, but they're back with t-pain...on a boat!

GNAR FALL MONTAGE

I just have to say LOL, and its not even a word. My favourite two being in a row starting at 0:14 where the kid slams into the back of the bike and then homie who falls in the shed. I don't care though, I'd take a few falls like this for the snow to melt early. I'm tired of being teased by nice weather followed by snowy weekends. Oh well it's more than half over so that's a plus.( Complaining about weather helps speed the melting process up!)

MONTANA 94

I thought it was about time to blog about the new montana 94, I haven't heard too too much about it yet. I posted a Video as well as a review underneath. I haven't found too much info on it at this point but check it out! Hopefully there will be some in the shop in the next while.

33third FIRST Look - Spanish Montana 94 Can…

Graffiti Supplies

Well… with our latest shipment of Spanish Montana supplies came an unexpected surprise. Included in our order were 9 cans of the NEW Spanish Montana 94 cans… Yes ya’ll from the orginators of the Montana Hardcore brand comes the newest in their paint line… Whats the difference you ask… well first off the can design is pretty sick. really simple and clean design so yes it looks pretty. The paint is a Matte paint so no glossiness to it and the valve is a variable pressure (mainly low pressure) style which like Goldline, Belton, and Beat offers you the artist MUCH more control over your can and really makes the paint flow like butta.

We have included some pictures of the newness below for you to check out since as far as we know we are the only store that gots em! We’ll have a much more in-depth review by some artists here in LA so you get a better idea of what these cans can REALLY do.

props to 33third.com for the info check it out if you wanna see more
